Carnival pics... finally!

Ok, it's just one picture. I was in the international fashion show representing China wearing the same brocade silk dress I wore last year for the global village. In this picture, I'm trying not to fall on my face--I'm wearing higher than normal for me heels.

same old song and dance...

I suppose I should do some sort of real update. I've been terribly busy lately. My kids are getting ready for exams. I'm working on semester 2 of my master's degree. All in all, school's good, I'm good, and my kids love me and hate all the same. I don't mind it. I rather love the idea of my kids hating me for writing the exams but love me all the same for being their teacher...I haven't figured out why is but it simply is.

Nothing has really changed here except the weather. Last week I was freezing, this week it's all back to normal with mid 60's. I'm happy for the warmer weather. I hate being cold. I really do. I also hate wearing 5 layers of clothes and trying to teach at the same time. Next year I'll have to pick up an extra pair of striped socks. I had far too much fun with my clothes during the cold weather--I'd still wear the long skirts and long sleeved shirts but I'd wear striped socks to keep my lets warm. This certainly made for interesting conversations in classes...

Well, it's just one of those days...

So Riayd Saudi Arabia got snow! Riayd is not all that far from Bahrain... So, Bahrain might just see SNOW! at some point this winter.

In other news, my kids are getting ready exams...their social life is over for two weeks...As is mine.

Mother nature's got a wicked sense of humor...

For about a week now I've been waking up at my usual 5:30am to find it pitch dark and freezing cold! The pitch dark thing I get, it's winter it's supposed to be dark at 5:30am. But this cold! I'm talking in the 40's and it doesn't really warm up much as the sun comes up.

All things considered, yesterday, a few things happened...

George W. Bush was in Bahrain causing all kinds of traffic nightmares for most of my students that DON'T live in Juffair (part of the city where the navy base and my school are located).

It rained causing all kinds of traffic nightmares for most of the islanders that don't know how to drive in rain and act like rain is a once or twice a year phenomena (oh wait, it is!).

It was cold, causing all kinds of heating nightmares everywhere on the island that didn't have a space heater.

Also Baghdad got it's first snow in 100 years and this means today was particularly cold and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 30's!

You know I left Indiana winters for a reason..,.

the rainbow...

Well, we got our first rain of the year last night. Thunder, lightning, the whole nine yards! It was such a great feeling. I had such fun in the rain. A bunch of kids in the neighborhood were huddled under awnings and I was stomping in the middle of the road in the puddles. I had a great time!
