Dubai!

a view of the city from the man made palm islands (literally a palm tree shaped land mass)

The old and the new... New Hotel,... Old souq.
Inside the souq HUGE coffee pot.

The front view ... or the back view of the really big hotel. I can't for the life of me remember the name of this hotel, but it's the only 7 star hotel in the world.

me, on a beach not too far away from the big hotel. No, I did not get to stay in the hotel, I'm not that lucky.

I made it back to Bahrain alright and had a pretty decent time in Dubai. I got to see the sights, and was away from all things Bahrain for a weekend, I loved it.

dust storm...

Driving in down town Manama, that's the Pearl right in front of me and I can't see ANYTHING behind it. There's actually a shopping center and other buildings in the area.

Notice something missing...? no, well, there's usually the parliament building just behind the compound wall on the left.

series of random events...

WE FINALLY GOT THE STORM I HAD BEEN ASKING FOR!!! Sunday we had one heck of a rain that lasted the entire day! Oh it was good.

Yesterday was ungodly windy.

Today was chilly but still pretty nice.

Today I also was propositioned to go to Dubai to pick up a cat that belongs to one of the fellow teachers. She can't go because of visa problems and offered to pay for the trip. No problem. We go down to the travel agent to get the arrangements set up for this weekend--yes, I'm going to Dubai THIS WEEKEND! and then started the hilarity. The travel agent needed to know the dimentions of the cage (one phone call to the house keeping said cat in Dubai), the weight of the cage (another phone call), the weight of the cat (another phone call), and the weight of the cat and cage together (yet another phone call). By the time we got off the phone with Nigel the last time, Amira and I were rolling on the floor laughing. Only in Bahrain will one travel agent remind us of the complications of having pets with so many bloody questions that we're suposed to know off the top of our heads.
