look, it's an update!

TIB!

Eid in Bahrain is the same old 'look! we can eat in public again!' and a week off from school. I did virtually nothing over Eid (except sleep and grade papers and have an argument with myself over what to do next: eat, sleep, or grade papers). Then I came back to school thrilled about getting to drink the morning Pepsi in front of my kids again. My kids seem to be alright with everything in school.

However, I am finding myself in an unusual position. I'm one of the youngest staff at the school. I'm expected to act like an adult but I'm not expected to be too much of an adult because of my age. I am finding this to be a problem...the older staff see me as a kid, the kids see me as an adult. I think I'm going to have this problem until I'm 30. Honestly, for dress down Thursday, I always wear nice jeans and a decent shirt--yesterday I was mistaken for one of the students by one of the admins...

Eid Mubarak!

Eid Mubarak! (Eid Blessings!)

Yes, we are through with Ramadan and can eat in public (during the day) again! This also means I'm off all week from school. Yahoo! I have a mountain of grading to do but, I've got tons of time to do it. :)

The Iftar buffet

Ok, my seniors invited me to an iftar buffet. I accepted without thinking about what this meant for me. In reality, This buffet was at a 5 star hotel and I was expected to look nice. Pictured above is what I ended up doing for the clothes, hair, and (yes, I know it's a shock) make-up. Apparently, this was perfectly acceptable as well as highly complemented by the students at the event.
